Writing (and questioning) Research Briefs to get you to the right destination

Why do you need to know this?

Briefs are mission-critical; a miscommunication at this stage can take the whole project off course. So as the client you need to know how to write them - at various levels of formality, and as a researcher you need to know how to question them to deliver what the client really wants..

Course content
  • Common types of brief.
  • Good practice with competitive briefings.
  • The 20 section ultimate brief template - to use and adapt
  • Overt and covert briefs, presenting problems and underlying issues
  • A checklist of basic questions to assess a brief
  • Questioning the brief to find unwritten assumptions, hidden agendas, concepts that are undefined or are hard to operationalise
What will you know and be able to do at the end of this Seminar?

You'll have a template for a brief that you can adapt for any circumstance. You'll be able to ask pertinent questions when you receive a brief to unpack concepts and underlying issues.
